Have you ever asked yourself why God created animals – so many of them with such variety?

by—– Pat Gunther

Clearly God loves animals.  He filled the Garden of Eden with them, preserved them during the Flood and expressed concern about the cattle of Nineveh at the end of the book of Jonah.  He even makes the surprising statement in Proverbs 12:10 that righteousness includes treating our animals well.  Someone’s true heart can be seen by the way s/he treats an animal – if they abuse an animal they likely will do so to people.

God undoubtedly created animals to be lessons for us.

  • ants – diligence and the work ethic  (Proverbs 6:6-8)

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider it’s ways and be wise!

It has no commander, yet it stores it’s provisions in summer and gathers it’s food at harvest.”

“Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise; (Proverbs 30: 26)

Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;  Badgers are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags;  locusts have no king, yet they  advance together in ranks; a lizard can be caught with the hand yet it is found in kings’ palaces.”

  • deer – sure footedness, strength and trust – (Habakkuk 3:19)

“The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to go on the heights.”

  • doves – gentleness  & innocence/ shrewd snakes (Matthew 10:16)

“ I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.  Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”

  • eagle – confidence/strength in the face of difficulties (Isaiah 40:31)

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint”

  • how eagles face a storm, spread their wings and use the wild strong winds to lift them up above the stormy clouds into the light beyond.
  • hen – safety (Matthew 23:37)

“Jerusalem. . .how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings.”

  • horse – obedience (Psalm 32:9)

“Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.”

  • lion – courage (Proverbs 30: 30)

“A lion, mighty among beasts, who retreats before nothing.”

  • raven – faith (Luke 12:24)

“Consider the ravens: they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them.  And how much more valuable you are than birds!”

  • sheep – discipleship (John 10:4)

“The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to His voice.  He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.  When He has brought out all His own, He goes on ahead of them and His sheep follow Him because they know His voice.”

  • sparrow – trust (Psalm 84:3)

“Even the sparrow has found a home and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young – a place near your alter.”

In our Old Testament lesson we are reminded of a very large animal used by God to teach us as well as Jonah an important lesson.

Jonah tried to do things his own way because he didn’t want to do what God was asking of him.  He was to preach God’s judgment to Nineveh whereas the other prophets were prophesying the judgment of God to Israel and Judah.

Jonah believed the Ninevites, who were known for their cruelty, were not deserving of God’s mercy so he ran away.  But God isn’t selective in telling people of His love and neither should we be.

So the whale came along and changed Jonah’s timing and plans.  The whale was used by God to teach Jonah an extremely important lesson – that of trusting and obeying God right away and in the first place.

Going from the very large to the very small, a caterpillar eats, spins a cocoon, when the time is right, it emerges through a tiny opening as it  struggles to get free of the chrysalis, finally emerging – then lets it’s  wings dry and then flies off.

There is a story about a young girl who found a chrysalis under a leave.  She checked on it everyday until one day she noticed it was moving and there was no wind so she was pretty sure the butterfly was getting ready to come out.  But it seemed to be taking a long time and maybe having trouble, so she found some safety scissors and carefully cut some of the chrysalis to help it escape to freedom.

To her horror, the butterfly emerged but it’s body was too big and the wings too small.  It looked unlike any butterfly she’d ever seen and soon it dropped to the ground.  It couldn’t fly so it didn’t survive.

When a butterfly struggles to get through the opening in the cocoon,  as it pushes out of the protective wrappings, the fluids get redistributed from the body to the wings.  The struggle to free itself is what the butterfly has to go through to be transformed into a beautiful creature, able to be airborne and free.

The butterfly has many lessons to teach us but in this example, we need struggles to grow our character.  We learn and grow most from failures, disappointments and tough times.  We also need to trust God and obey Him as Jonah also learned from the whale.

We need to wait on the Lord, though it’s not always easy, accepting His timing and not try to do things our way or too quickly just because He’s not moving fast enough for us.  Like the little girl, with all good intentions, tried to hurry the butterfly along – many times our interference in God’s plans will backfire.

Things often will work out but we might not receive the blessings along the way that we would have if we’d only trusted God’s timing.

Often we are in such a rush that we miss a beautiful sunset, a lovely birdsong, the laughter of a child, the smile of a neighbor.

The song “My Way” surely is this present world’s song right now and should never be a Believer’s song.  The following poem sums it up only too well:

‘As children bring their broken toys
With tears for me to mend,
It brought my broken dreams to God
Because He was my friend.
But then instead of leaving Him
In peace to work alone,
I hung around and tried to help
With ways that were my own.
At last I snatched them back and cried
“How can you be so slow?”
“My child,” He said,
 “What could I do?
-----You never did let go.”

So let us trust God, His timing and His plans for our lives and those whose lives we touch.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen.”

Father,

You have created such a variety of animals and filled our world with them.  Some we don’t find very pretty or friendly but there are so many that take our breath away.  And with all of them you have used your creativity and attention to detail.  Then to have them able to teach us lessons, mentioning them specifically in the Bible – what a good and gracious God you are.  Thank you that the animals teach us to trust You – and to wait for Your timing to accomplish Your plan for our lives no matter what kind of struggles we have to go through because You are there with us all the time, all the way.

Responsibility it seems is being shifted from the people who exercise their right of free choice, to the people who conceal the harm which may result from that choice.

Approving questionable practices is costly.

Three hiker- climbers died on Mt. Hood in 2006.

The questions that lingered in people’s minds were two fold.

Ques. Why would the climbers have gone so late in the season

Ans.  They went because they wanted to go, and they wanted challenge.

Q. Should the state deny permission to go when conditions were not right? (This question was asked by a reporter covering the story. And the answer below is the kind of answer given by those in authority at the site on Dec. 19, 2006)

A.   ‘If the state permits someone to go and if something happens, the weather gets bad or something happens, the state would get sued and the taxpayers would pay. The best they could do, they said, was to require that all climbers carry a GPS system with them; but to grant permission would be to assume liability.’

To states authorizing same-sex unions of any kind, I repeat: “Take heed.”  You could be held liable for health costs and possible wrongful death lawsuits because of the assumption of safety which goes when permission is granted.  In addition, state health departments know in advance what ‘risky behavior’ is. To sanction such is to put your state taxpayers in a position of fiscal liability.  The authorities at Mt. Hood understand this principle.

Responsibility it seems is being shifted from the people who exercise their right of free choice, to the people who conceal the harm which may result from that choice.

Tobacco companies were successfully sued for astronomical amounts because they advertised for public use their product which was proven to be physically harmful to many.  In other words, they remained silent on its dangers.  They were not against smokers, but are they for smokers?

MacDonalds was sued for injury because coffee was too hot; and now there is a case pending because their food causes obesity in vulnerable youth.

Think of the punitive damages, even for wrongful death by Aids for states who approve an activity without warning of the dangers of that activity. The scenario would be no different from the scenario established in the asbestos cases and successful cases against  tobacco companies, gun companies, breast implant companies, pharmaceutical companies, etc.  If states remain silent on known but hidden dangers, states who grant approval run the risk of being ‘set up’ for mass torts later, charging non-disclosure of hidden dangers.

If, however, the state is sovereign and cannot be sued as in ‘the king can do no wrong’, then we are equally being set up, because that is the type of government from which many people sought relief and immigrated to America.

Lesson learned: A half truth is still a lie. And, people who know better, need to tell  the whole truth.   Paul Harvey says:  “And now you know the REST of the story”.   Lawyers and plaintiffs, Go to it!

SAFE PICNIC WARE?

7/10/2023 – Mary A. LaClair

400 words

Would you take something that came from China and put it directly into your mouth?

I think not.

Yet, many people unknowingly do exactly that.  Take a look at the plastic silverware used in abundance for summer gatherings and picnics.  Taken directly from China and put directly into our mouths.

At my home, plastic food utensils made in China are washed and stored ahead of time. It would be time consuming when preparing the actual meals. Expecting to use them, it may be done weeks ahead of time.  Then, when used can be tossed into the garbage or in the sink.

Grocery bags: Most of us are now taking our own personal grocery bags to the store ‘to save the planet’ so to speak.  Mine are handmade from hand towels. Fold a hand towel in half whichever way you choose and use cotton rope as handles. No seam binding needed.  These draw many compliments. They are washable and sturdy. The small size makes them better for heavier objects, like juice and canned goods. Being easily washable they will also be good for meats.

In brainstorming this further: If I take my own bags going to the grocery store, I now think it would be a good idea to take my own take-out containers when going to a restaurant, (in one of those towel bags I keep in the car for impromptu times.) Granted, some restaurants, for sanitary reasons, may not be able to take your container back to their kitchen; but nothing prevents you from putting extra contents from your plate at the table into your own clean container. Who wants to put food to eat into a container which was made in a factory somewhere in China?

Even when taking my own pre-washed disposable plastic container to a small local home-town deli, I received a discount.  The rectangle black re-usable containers found at the Dollar Store say Made in Canada.  Marked safe in dishwasher and micro-wave. Good choice ! While we are saving the environment, I mention EARTH BREEZE LAUNDRY SHEETS. I like them and feel comfortable in recommending them. Google their site…

My guess is that many people may wash some ‘made in china’ new clothes before wearing next to their skin.

Wanna’ think again about that plastic silverware that people put into their mouths…and even lick for tasty remains?

I knew an elderly lady who carried her own fork in her purse for eating at Chinese salad bar restaurants regardless of the type of table ware offered there.

She lived to be 100 years old, but she also ate a lot of cabbage…!  (<:

HIS LOVE….REACHING

12/25/2022

HIS LOVE…..REACHING

Right from the beginning God’s love has reached, and from the beginning man has refused to understand.  But love went on reaching, offering itself.  Love offered the eternal freedom…. we wanted license.  Love offered communion with God Himself… we wanted to worship at the shrine of our own minds.  Love offered peace… we wanted approval for our wars. Even yet,  love went on reaching.  And still today, after two thousand years, patiently, lovingly, Christ is reaching out to us today.  Right through the chaos of our world, through the confusion of our minds.. He is reaching…longing to share with us…. The very being of God.

His love still is longing, His love still is reaching, right past the shackles of my mind. And the Word of the Father became Mary’s little  Son. And His love reached all the way to where I was.

THE VALUE OF RETURNING TO GOD

RETURN TO GOD – A CALL TO RETURN TO GOD

Scripture quotes 9/5/2022 1,115 words

12/25/2022

God hears the cry of his people; He urges the nation, and them, to RETURN TO HIM in order to find rest for their souls and to live in peace

Jer 3:21-22 A cry is heard on the barren heights, the weeping and pleading of the people of Israel, because they have perverted their ways and have forgotten the LORD their God. 22 “Return, faithless people; I will cure you of backsliding.” NIV Jer 4:1-2 4 “If you will return, O Israel, return to me,” declares the LORD . “If you put your detestable idols out of my sight and no longer go astray,

2 and if in a truthful, just and righteous way you swear, ‘As surely as the LORD lives,’ then the nations will be blessed by him and in him they will glory.” NIV

Lam 5:21-22 21 Restore us to yourself, O LORD , that we may return; renew our days as of old 22 unless you have utterly rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure. NIV

Hos 6:1-3 “Come, let us return to the LORD . He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. 2 After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence. 3 Let us acknowledge the LORD ; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” NIV

Hos 12:6 But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and wait for your God always. NIV

Zech 1:2-4 2 “The LORD was very angry with your forefathers. 3 Therefore tell the people: This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Return to me,’ declares the LORD Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the LORD Almighty. 4 NIV

Jer 6:16-19 16 Thus says the LORD : “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it;

Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ 17 Also, I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ‘We will not listen.’ 18 Therefore hear, you nations, And know, O congregation, what is among them. 19 Hear, O earth! Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people — The fruit of their thoughts, Because they have not heeded My words Nor My law, but rejected it. NKJV

…and these as a comparison in the AMPLIFIED VERSION and in THE MESSAGE versions for more clarity:

Jer 6:16-19 16 Thus says the Lord: Stand by the roads and look; and ask for the eternal paths, where the good, old way is; then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it! [Matt 11:29.] 17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hear and obey the sound of the trumpet! But they said, We will not listen or obey.

18 Therefore hear, O [Gentile] nations, and know, O congregation [of believing ones], what [great things I will do] to them. 19 Hear, O earth: behold, I am bringing evil upon this people, the fruit of their thoughts (their schemes and devices) because they have not listened and obeyed My words, and as for My law, they have rejected it. AMP

Matt 11:28-30 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

[Jer 6:16.] 30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good — not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne. AMP

Jer 6:16-19 “Go stand at the crossroads and look around. Ask for directions to the old road, The tried and true road. Then take it. Discover the right route for your souls. But they said, ‘Nothing doing. We aren’t going that way.’ 17 I even provided watchmen for them to warn them, to set off the alarm. But the people said, ‘It’s a false alarm. It doesn’t concern us.’ 18 And so I’m calling in the nations as witnesses: ‘Watch, witnesses, what happens to them!’ 19 And, ‘Pay attention, earth! Don’t miss these bulletins.’ I’m visiting catastrophe on this people, the end result of the games they’ve been playing with me. They’ve ignored everything I’ve said, had nothing but contempt for my teaching. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

Jer 6:16-17 16 The LORD said to his people, “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths and where the best road is. Walk in it, and you will live in peace.”

But they said, “No, we will not!” 17 Then the LORD appointed watchmen to listen for the trumpet’s warning. But they said, “We will not listen.” TEV

Jer 6:16-19 16 Thus saith the LORD , Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. 17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken. 18 Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them. 19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it. KJV (even the fruit of their thoughts…..interesting)

Jer 6:16 16 Thus saith the Lord: Stand ye on the ways, and see and ask for the old paths which is the good way, and walk ye in it: and you shall find refreshment for your souls. Douay-Rheims Jer 6:16-17 16 The LORD said to his people, “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths and where the best road is. Walk in it, and you will live in peace.” TEV

The promise if we , and our country, do this?

Refreshment for our souls, and living in peace.

AN UNFINISHED DIARY

by — H. Schwab, originally in German, translated to Polish then English

October 5:   Today my life began. My parents don’t know it yet. I am smaller than the seed of an apple, but already I am I. And unformed as I am right now, I’m going to be a girl. I shall have blond hair and azure eyes, and I know I’ll love flowers.

October 19:   I’ve grown a little, but I am still too small to do anything by myself. Mother does just about everything for me. And what’s funny, she still doesn’t even know that she is carrying me here right under her heart.  And feeding me with her own blood.

October 23:  My mouth is just beginning now. Just think. In a year or so I will be laughing. Later I will be able to speak. I know what my first word will me-Mother. Who says I’m not a real person yet? I am, just as the tiniest crumb of bread is till truly bread.

October 27:  My heart began to beat today all by itself. From now on it will gently beat all the rest of my life. Without ever stopping to rest. T hen after many years it will tire, and stop, and I shall die. But now I am at not the ending but the beginning.

November 2:  Every day I grow a bit. My arms and legs are beginning to take shape. But I’ll have to wait so long before my little legs will carry me running to my mother’s arms, and before my arms can embrace my father.

November 12:   Now tiny fingers are beginning to form on my hands. Strange how small they are. Yet how wonderful they will be! They’ll pet a puppy, throw a ball, pick a flower, touch another hand. My fingers. Someday they may play a violin or paint a picture.

November 20:  Today the doctor told Mother for the first time that I am lying here under her heart.  Aren’t you happy, Mother? Before long I’ll be in your arms.

November 25:  My mother and father don’t even know that I’m just a little girl. Perhaps they expect a boy. Or twins maybe. But I’ll surprise them. And I want to be called Catherine, like Mother.

December 10:  My face is completely formed. I hope I turn out to look like Mother.

December 13:  Now I’m just about able to see, but it’s still dark all around me. But soon my eyes will open on the world of sunshine—and followers—and little children. I’ve never seen the sea, or a mountain, or a rainbow, either. How do they really look? How do you really look, Mother?

December 24:  Mother, I can hear your heart beating. I wonder if you hear the whispering beat of mine. It’s so even—tup-tup, tup-tup. You’ll have a healthy little daughter, Mother. I know some babies have difficulty entering the world, but there are kind doctors to help mothers and babies. I know, too, some mothers don’t even want their babies. But I can hardly wait to be in your arms, touch your face, look into your eyes. You’re waiting for me, just as I’m waiting for you, aren’t you?

December 28:  Mother, why did you let them stop my life? We would have had such a lovely time together.

Pride First of the 7 Capital Sins; or the 7 Deadly Sins

 PRIDE MONTH?

                                                                              — By Mary A. LaClair

Originally posted on June 22, 2012. Being re-run June 15, 2022, with some modifications.

Again we will be told that June is Gay Pride month. In addition to October being dubbed ‘coming out’ month, I can see the homosexual agenda trying to adopt all twelve months soon. The fact that a vocal minority has dubbed June ‘pride’ month should tell us another story aside and apart from the word ‘gay’.

It is pretty common knowledge that PRIDE is the capital sin. Should that fact be overlooked?

Prov 16:18
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. NIV

Is there anyone reading this who can name the seven capital sins which, for good reason, are also known as the “seven deadly sins”?

Of those who can, congratulations to you!

Of those who cannot here is the list::  Pride, Lust, Envy, Anger, Covetousness, Avarice (Greed), Laziness (sloth), Gluttony.  These are the seven deadly sins. Many deal with attitude. The attitude leads to sin.

Most people can usually start the recitation with the first and greatest – that sin for which Lucifer was cast out of heaven ‑ PRIDE.

We know that gluttony leads to death. We know anger can lead to death. We know lust can lead to death (S.T.D’s  A.I.D.S.).  How soon can we expect to see a National Anger month?

But it is lesser known that Sodom & Gomorrah were destroyed, not just for sodomy (lust), but also for pride, gluttony and self-centeredness (covetousness), as documented in the Holy Scriptures in the book of Ezekiel chapter 16, verses 49‑50: “Behold this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: Pride, overabundance of food (gluttony), prosperous ease (covetousness) and idleness (laziness) were hers; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy (self centeredness) And they were haughty and committed abominable offense before Me, (gay pride parades?) therefore I removed them when I saw it and I saw fit.” (AMP)

sulfur rock fire-brimstone found by geologists

“Sodom was an example unto those that after should live ungodly” (2 Peter 2:6 KJV).  This can be construed as a warning, and well should be by wise, understanding, and careful people.

It is not enough to claim that Jesus loves us; we must prove to the Father who sent Jesus for us, that we return that love to the Father through Jesus. Obedience proves this to Him.  Do you think adulterers, liars, gluttons, the greedy, the envious, sodomites, or murders are obedient or disobedient to God?  We should all be familiar with the laws of cause and effect.  Proud people don’t need our approval, they need our prayers.  Perhaps June should be better dubbed ‘pray for a gay’ month.

The Holy Scriptures further address ‘gay pride’: “The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe unto them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.”  Isaiah 3:9 NIV

Feel free to Google the term Gay Parade for proof in pictures, too graphic to display here.
